Journalist, author, and Greenwich Village resident Malcolm Gladwell turns fifty today. Happy Birthday, Mr. Gladwell. Like many authors who have chosen to make the Village their home, Gladwell is originally from elsewhere. Born in Great Britain, Gladwell grew up in Ontario, Canada before moving to the United Stated. He lived in Indiana and Washington D.C. (writing for The Washington Post) before moving to New York City and writing a column for The New Yorker.

Gladwell is best known for developing keenly attuned theories on modern life based on academic research, particularly in the social sciences. Besides his usual column with The New Yorker, he is the author of several books, including The Tipping Point, Blink, Outliers, and What the Dog Saw.

The author is often known to write in cafes and coffee houses in the Village—once again sounding like some of the many authors who have called Greenwich Village home over the years. Gladwell is currently working on the book David and Goliath, which is scheduled to be released in 2013 and will examine the struggle of the underdog versus the favorite, a subject which he related to preservation for  GVSHP back in 2010.
