Welcome Chelsea Dowell

chelseaToday we welcome Chelsea Dowell to the GVSHP team as Director of Communications and Programming. We’re excited to have Chelsea on board and managing our public outreach and programming, and working with our members.

Chelsea comes to us from the Green-Wood Historic Fund, where she promoted the 178-year-old Green-Wood Cemetery through innovative programs, membership, and other cultural projects. During her tenure, Chelsea significantly expanded the cultural events offered and spearheaded popular new initiatives, including a much-publicized beekeeping project on the historic grounds. Chelsea earned her Master’s degree in Historic Preservation from Pratt Institute.

Originally from Buffalo, New York, Chelsea’s hometown engendered an early love of architectural history and urban character. Though much has been lost in decades of decline, its historic fabric is integral to the spirit of the city and its people. Chelsea was drawn early on to the story of Buffalo’s rise and fall, and the powerful role preservation (or lack thereof) can play in a city’s evolution.

These days, Chelsea is especially interested in inspiring all city dwellers to realize the enriching potential that historic fabric can have on everyday lives. About her new role at GVSHP, Chelsea says “I am thrilled to join this outstanding organization, and can’t wait to get started celebrating some of the most culturally rich neighborhoods in New York City. Greenwich Village, East Village, and NoHo are special places, and I’m proud to be working to preserve and promote them.”

You’ll see Chelsea at many upcoming GVSHP programs. We hope you’ll join us in welcoming Chelsea aboard! She can be reached at cdowell@gvshp.org.
