On this day in 1961, fashion designer, author, and friend of GVSHP Issac Mizrahi was born in Brooklyn.

With an interest in sewing from a young age, Mizrahi launched his first fashion brand, IS New York, at the age of 15 with a family friend. He eventually attended Parsons to pursue this path.  Mizrahi is inspired by decadence, and by the diversity of New York City.  In addition to his own fashion designs and connections with other established fashion houses and brands, Mizrahi has dabbled in other areas including film and tv, comic books, and even narrating children’s stories for the Guggenheim.  Currently he and his partner reside in the Village in an historic building off of 6th Avenue.  He is featured in our Greenwich Village Stories book and you can read about his experiences being a Villager by picking up a copy.
