APPLICATION:

A house built in 1834-35. Application is to alter the ground floor and install storefront infill and signage.

APPLICATION STATUS:

Status as of March 8th, 2011: LATEST NEWS
The applicant presented the revised application to the Landmarks Preservation Commission at a public meeting on March 8th, 2011. The revised designs as presented at the meeting may be viewed here. The Commission voted to approve the plans with modifications, requesting that the storefront material be changed to a painted metal or wood, and that the W 10^th Street ground floor windows match the proportions of the upper floors.

Status as of March 4th, 2011:
The public meeting at which the application will present the revised application to the Landmarks Preservation Commission has been scheduled for March 8th, 2011.

Status as of February 1st, 2011:
At the Landmarks Preservation Commission’s public hearing on February 1st, the Commission reviewed the application. In general, they thought there was too much glass proposed for the 10th Street facade, that the lettering on the signage was too tall, and that the brownstone and cast-iron columns that were discovered in probes should be exposed. They took no vote today, but rather asked the applicant to consider these comments and return with a revised application at a public meeting, date TBD.

Status as of January 24th, 2011:
At the public hearing held by Community Board 2′s Landmarks & Public Aesthetics Committee on January 24th, the applicant presented the proposal publicly for the first time. This application will be shown next to the Landmarks Preservation Commission on February 1st.

The application involves:

1) Replacing the existing storefront with a new bronze storefront
2) Enlarging the existing windows on the ground floor of the 10th Street facade
3) Adding new window openings on the 10th Street facade
4) Replacing the existing sign with a new sign (metal panel with pin-mounted letters and “halo” lighting)
5) Adding a bracket sign
