Happy New Year and welcome to 2019! Perhaps you welcomed in the new year a bit ‘robustly’ last night.  In that spirit, we thought we’d look at a few posts from this past year about the free flow of alcohol.  So put a cold compress on your head, grab your coffee, put your feet up and enjoy!

Irish Bars of the Village

Just in time for St. Patricks Day, we took a look at some of the old and new Irish bars of the Village. Some of the bars included were McSorley’s Old Ale House (of course), Mr. Dennehy’s and Galway Hooker, to name a few. To see the entire post, click HERE.

The End of Prohibition!

On December 5, 1933, the 21st Amendment was ratified ending 13 years of prohibition in this country. This post not only provides the background and history of that period, but also highlights some of the speakeasies which prospered in our area during that time. To read the post, click HERE.

Walt Whitman’s Bohemian Village, Featuring Pfaff’s

This post takes a look at Walt Whitman and his experiences in the Village, especially as they relate to his time at the bohemian hangout, Pfaff’s beer cellar at 645 Broadway. Whitman began frequenting Pfaff’s in 1859, and it was here where he would acquire the literary connections he sought. Click HERE for the post.
