New York Studio School Tour

SOLD OUT

In our historic neighborhoods, each day we pass by fascinating buildings rich in culture. Do you ever pause and wonder “what’s behind those doors?” Here is an opportunity to pursue that curiosity. Join Village Preservation for a tour of the New York Studio School on West 8th Street, between Sixth Avenue/Avenue of the Americas and Fifth Avenue.

Since its founding in 1964, the New York Studio School has been an innovator in arts education, prioritizing daily continuity of study for artists through work in the studio. In 1965, the school moved into what had been the original Whitney Museum of American Art on West 8th Street, where it continues today to offer its signature programming: degree and certificate programs, lectures, exhibitions, and the internationally recognized Marathon education program. Step into this iconic National Historic Landmark building for a tour that will focus on key historic spaces: the Gertrude Vanderbilt Whitney Studio, decorated by Robert Winthrop Chanler, the Gallery, the Clay Room, and MacDougal Alley.

Please note: At the end of the tour the NYSS will ask participants if they would like to make an optional donation to the NYSS. These donations do not go to Village Preservation.
