APPLICATION:
A rowhouse, originally built in 1828 altered in the late 19th and early 20th centuries. Application is to construct a stoop, modify masonry openings and the areaway, and install railings and a skylight.

Status as of March 8th, 2011: LATEST NEWS
On March 8th, the applicant presented to the Landmarks Preservation Commission the proposal to amend Certificate of Appropriateness 11-3963. The proposal was to create a smaller deck and to push the railing back. The railing was to be changed to wire mesh, and the arched window changed to square. The application was approved.
Status as of March 4th, 2011:
Though the application was approved on September 14th, the applicant is now returning to the Landmarks Preservation Commission for a public meeting on March 8th to amend Certificate of Appropriateness 11-3963 for alterations to masonry openings and installation of rooftop railings.
Status as of September 14th, 2010:
At the public meeting on September 14th, 2010, the applicant presented a revised proposal to the Landmarks Preservation Commission that involved moving the rooftop railing back an additional 18′ from the rear facade. The Commission approved the application.
Status as of September 10th, 2010:
This applicant is scheduled to present the revised proposal to the Landmarks Preservation Commission at a public meeting on September 14th, 2010.
Status as of July 20th, 2010:
At the July 20th public hearing, the Landmarks Preservation Commission reviewed the proposal and felt that the proposed wire mesh rooftop railing was too visible from the public way. They asked the applicant to return at a later date with revisions. The Commission took no issue with any of the changes proposed for the front (Barrow Street) facade.
Status as of July 12th, 2010:
The originally-scheduled July 13th public hearing at the Landmarks Preservation Commission has been postponed to July 20th, 2010.
Status as of July 6th, 2010:
At the July 6th Community Board 2 public hearing, the applicant presented plans that will be shown to the Landmarks Preservation Commission on July 13th. The proposal involves changes to both the front and rear facades as well as the addition of a roof deck. A portion of the rear facade is visible from Seventh Avenue South.
On the front (Barrow Street) facade, the applicant is proposing to restore the door, stoop and railings using these features at Nos. 49 & 51 Barrow Street as a prototype.
On the rear (Seventh Avenue South) facade, the applicant is proposing to add a railing to the existing second-floor balcony and to change the second-floor center window to a door.
In order to create a roof deck, the proposal involves lowering the existing roof while maintaining the height of the parapet walls on both facades. The deck would have a wire mesh railing that would be recessed 6′ from the front of the building (thus the applicant claims it would not be visible from Barrow Street). The roof would also have a raised skylight and a stair bulkhead.
