East Village Saturday Festivals Abound!

Village Preservation is fortunate to be participating in two terrific events this coming Saturday, September 17th and we invite our friends and readers to come and visit us!

Astor Alive! Festival is being presented by the Village Alliance and is free to the public. The Festival will celebrate The New Astor Place, a vibrant cultural district with over two dozen historic theater, dance, music, architecture, and art institutions.

Performances from all around the Village will be on 4 stages and will include artists from La Mama, Theater for a New City, Joe’s Pub, The Public Theatre, Grace Church School Dance Ensemble, Rod Rogers Dance Company, Bowery Poetry, Peridance Contemporary Dance Company and many more.

Processional Arts Workshop will be on hand to lead the parade through the New Astor Place with their own special brand of giant puppets. Brazilian drummers will accompany the procession.

There will be creative arts workshops throughout the Festival grounds. There will be plenty of fun and amazement for everyone.

GVSHP will have a tent on 8th Street between Cooper Square and 3rd Avenue. Come by to visit us. We’ll have sidewalk art and architecture workbooks for the kids!

The Festival runs from 5PM-8PM on Friday, September 16th and from 1PM-5PM on Saturday, September 17th.

Right next door, we will also have a tent at the Taste of the East Village Festival on East 7th Street between Cooper Square and 2nd Avenue. The tasting festivities begin at 12:00PM. The Taste of East Village is an outdoor culinary festival benefiting the affordable housing preservation and development work, social services, and senior programming of the Cooper Square Committee. Tickets are $25. There will be tastings from 15 of the East Village’s best restaurants along with live entertainment by local musicians.

Buying a ticket to the Taste of East Village will help raise money for Cooper Square Committee’s affordable housing development work (including the Bea Arthur Residence for homeless LGBT youth), greening and resiliency programs, tenant counseling, organizing and anti-eviction work, and social services for low income households and senior citizens.
