Manager Nicole Absher and proprietor Michael Burst.

Spring is here, and that means flowers!  A veritable botanical garden embraces you upon walking into one particularly quaint storefront on Hudson Street in the West Village.  At Hudson River Flowers between Charles and Perry Streets, the fresh scent of a multitude of blossoming flowers enlivens your soul, even in the dead of winter; one of many reasons they are our April Business of the Month.

For eleven years this verdant gem has been an integral part of the neighborhood.  Proprietor Michael Burst lives in the West Village and knows everyone on the block.  All kinds of people visit the shop, and apparently “Libras love flowers.”  Especially the orchids they curate and plant.

But they are far more than just flowers.  Though they have everything from anenome and baby tears to moss and ferns, they can set you up with regular bouquets for your home or office, or they can landscape and tend your garden or yard year round.  As they say “Flowers for any occasion. Whether you are saying I do, congratulations, or bon voyage, our dedication to service and creativity add a lavish sense of charm and style to every gathering.”  And their plethora of positive reviews is a testament to their impeccable customer service, with an easy going staff that works well under pressure and does a good job at it.

Over the years there has been a greater in interest in more organic and locally grown materials, and Hudson River Flowers have sources that accommodate this demand.  Their dedicated and loyal clients often refer their friends and neighbors because of the trust and service they receive.  Whether it is inside or outside, they truly are a little shop that can do it all.

Their Instagram page is as much a feast for the eyes as the store — but you have to go in for the smells.

From one of many laudatory reviews:

I have been using them for as long as I’ve lived in the neighborhood (since 2001) and they always have the best looking and best quality flowers. The staff is very friendly and helpful and they always give good advice on how best to take care of what you purchase there.  There is a big difference between them and the ordinary flower seller, they really stand out.” Paul.

From their own slogan: “Fresh and flowing. An informed and intuitive style lends to create sleek well-fashioned designs infused with a touch of romance. We pride ourselves in the ability to balance the beauty in nature with the perpetual flow of a bustling New York City.” It is places like Hudson River Flowers that truly make the Village feel like a village, so go visit our April Business of the Month, at 541 Hudson Street between Charles and Perry Streets, soon.
