In that sweet spot where Greenwich Village meets the Meatpacking District, there is a small business that has been feeding New Yorkers and visitors alike since 1995.  They started out as a catering company largely serving the fashion industry with myriad delectables.  And three years ago they opened the door and windows to add a quaint walk-in breakfast and lunch takeout shop that is a thriving favorite of locals and visiting workers.  The spot?:  Feast On Us at 645 Hudson Street, our February Business of the Month.

Your food has to be good to stay in business serving demanding New Yorkers for almost three decades.  Feast On Us is owned by Ibrahim Eldomyati, a well known and friendly presence in the neighborhood.  The food is fresh and the menu changes regularly.  The food up front is based on the day’s catering.  Feast is known for their pasta dishes, various wraps, sea bass, and especially their kale salad. Linda, who lives nearby and nominated them for our Business of the Month three times, said:

My husband and I do takeout at least once a week. We’ve never been disappointed!

They cater for photo shoots, film sets, weddings, lunches at local offices, and any special event.  They can handle any request, with one science-themed event requiring them to get creative with bugs.  Another memorable occasion was when they served beverages in test tubes with dry ice around.  The locals from West 12th and Jane Street can often be seen in the small shop, where bulk jars of quinoa and grains make it seem like a home pantry. And workers from the Whitney to Betaworks and others all come through.  Michelle wrote in her nomination form:

I work in the Meatpacking District and there are lots of places to eat lunch, but most are out of my price range. This catering company opens up for takeout at lunchtime and offers a changing menu of delicious and affordable lunch options. They have become our office’s go-to! Plus the staff is incredibly friendly.

Manager Nadia Qunbar explained how food tastes have changed since they first opened.  There is a greater concentration on healthy foods, with vegetarian options, gluten-free meals and other dietary restrictions always taken into consideration. It is their good food, good service, and many word-of-mouth referrals that have kept them going strong for so long.  Also, the staff is friendly and dedicated, and many have been there since the beginning.  Nadia is the “newest” member of the team, having started there 6 years ago.

Nadia described the friendly community spirit of the neighborhood.  You see the same people regularly and everyone knows what the other person is working on.  And the location is excellent, as you can easily walk to anywhere in the Village, get to SoHo or Union Square, or stroll the Highline all the way to 34th and back and not feel totally like you are in the city.

So drop in on Ibrahim and Nadia and the team and feast on their delicious changing menu at Feast On Us, or invite them to cater your next event. Their dishes can range from American fare with good old fashioned burgers, BBQ, or southern cooking, to a French Bistro menu, or Hawaiian fare, with an eclectic mix of meat, vegetables, and fruits and nuts.  Of course, since the owner hails from Egypt, their Mediterranean menu is highly recommended, and boasts a wide variety of food, from Greek staples to the more elaborate tastes and flavors. Is it lunchtime yet?  Congrats to our February 2019 Business of the Month, Feast On Us, at 645 Hudson Street.
