This 11-story building was designed in 1906 by Knight and Collins for the American Felt Company. As the primary felt producer for Steinway, the company played a major role in the piano industry in the early 1900s, when this area was a center of piano manufacturing. Later the building housed several significant printers and bookbinders. After its conversion into apartments, prominent residents of the building have included Abbie Hoffman, Bret Easton Ellis, and Katie Holmes.
