Cafe Bizarre was one of the early Greenwich Village folk clubs, opened by Rick Allmen in 1957 with folk singer Odetta as the headliner. It came to also host renowned jazz acts as well as poetry reading by prominent Beat poets including Jack Kerouac and Allen Ginsberg. By the 1960s it was also featuring underground rock and roll acts; it was here that Andy Warhol first saw the Velvet Underground perform and became their manager.  In 1984 NYU razed the building and several surrounding buildings for its D’Agostino Hall Law School Building.
